SIMIN
Simin — A Fusion of Marquetry and Metal Engraving
Simin combines the elegance of marquetry with the precision of metal engraving—a dialogue between wood and metal, warmth and brilliance.
With a diameter of 324 mm and a balanced weight, this piece is ideal as a luxury serving tray, a decorative wall element, or a collectible art object.
At the center, a 70 mm engraved brass plate is framed by a two-layer wood border of walnut and pear, creating a striking contrast between the warmth of wood and the glow of metal.

Simin is the result of the intersection of two traditional Iranian arts: metal engraving and wood marquetry.
The initial concept was to show the dialogue between two contrasting materials: metal, with its strength and shine, and wood, with its warmth and lively texture. This controlled contrast defines Simin’s character—a piece that is not only beautiful but also meaningful and structured.
The process begins with selecting the base wood. Walnut was chosen for the primary frame due to its strength, dimensional stability, and deep natural color, while pearwood forms the second layer, creating a soft visual transition between wood and metal, highlighting and elevating the central engraved plate.
The marquetry woods are arranged to guide the eye naturally from light to dark:
- Maple & Fig: Light tones, starting the visual journey
- Zersh & Orange: Warm tones, adding energy and movement
- Pistachio & Angelwood: Varied textures, giving visual depth
- Walnut & Pear: Stabilizing and finalizing the flow of colors
At the center, the engraved brass plate serves as a visual focal point, chosen for its malleability, durability, and natural shine. Engraving requires precise, controlled strikes, sometimes taking hours to complete just a few centimeters, creating a sense of craftsmanship and pride in traditional Iranian art.
During assembly, all pieces were carefully dried and moisture-controlled multiple times to prevent deformation over time. The final natural oil finish allows the wood to breathe while preserving its glow without any plastic coating.
Simin is meant to be touched and experienced—whether on a serving table or mounted on the wall, it tells the story of handcrafted value and patience.
Every piece from Garen reflects hours of dedication, skill, and belief in the lasting beauty of art. Simin represents 128 hours of focused, passionate work—a perfect gift for homes that respect authentic craftsmanship and real quality.
