Yalda

Creating the Yalda Serving Set was a journey from design to a tangible, touchable experience. From the very beginning, our focus extended beyond visual beauty—we sought to craft a product that carries meaning in everyday life:

• A piece that sparks conversation on the dining table
• A piece that conveys security and stability when held.
• A piece that becomes part of the memory of intimate gatherings at home.

To achieve this, the soft curves of the tray and bowl were designed according to ergonomic geometry, balancing the weight of solid wood with ease of handling. The edges were hand-finished to ensure a tactile experience that is neither rough nor slippery.

The interior surfaces are designed to reflect light evenly, accentuating the marquetry patterns. Under candlelight or warm lighting, the natural texture and glow of the wood come alive beautifully.

In the marquetry, woods were selected not just by color but by hardness, flexibility, and light reflection, ensuring visual harmony and structural strength. Lighter woods such as Maple and Tulip capture the light, while deeper tones like Padauk and processed Ebony create depth and shadow—enhancing the vibrant pomegranate motif at first glance.

The crafting process—from moisture conditioning of the wood to precise millimeter cuts and pressure gluing—was entirely manual, with no industrial machinery, as human precision brings unmatched delicacy.

Finally, a protective natural oil finish reveals the wood’s true color while safeguarding the surface from moisture and everyday use. The Yalda set is therefore more than a decorative object—it is a practical, functional tool for daily dining and ceremonial occasions.

Yalda is a festival of light in the heart of darkness—a fresh beginning eternally captured in wood. May its presence, like its name, remain timeless.
